Trophy’s History

Our history is the one of a small Canadian Company that started business in Ontario in 1967. With a vision of excellence, innovation, quality and being a reliable supplier all across Canada, we began a carefully planned growth strategy in an industry dominated by large companies.

We started our expansion process across Canada by acquiring companies whose products complemented our core business. As we have grown, we have taken particular care to maintain our family structure; many long-time employees remain, giving us a unique internal dynamic.

As the demand for branded packs, food service and bulk food products grew at the retail level, we recognized that our expertise in sourcing quality nuts worldwide gave us a unique skill which could be easily applied to other food categories: dried fruits, seeds, legumes, spices, whole grain and candies.

Recognizing this enormous opportunity for growth, Trophy embarked on an imaginative series of acquisitions. In the 70’s we started our expansion into Western Canada. In 1979, Trophy purchased Gold Cup, a small confectionary company in Brampton, Ontario that initially formed the basis of our candy business. Our confectionary department supplies all of our candy, sugar-coated, and chocolate products nationally.

We added Pinetree Nuts in Vancouver and JRI Foods in Mississauga to our network and with this acquisition we obtained a strong national nut and candy distribution system- the only one in our industry. In Calgary, we built a fully automated, HACCP certified manufacturing and distribution facility to better service Western Canada.

Trophy’s acquisition of companies was a key strategy to our expansion and growth in the market…. KRISPAK and Jonespac in 1993, and Imperial Snack Foods in 2000 allowed us to solidify our “salted-in-shell” peanut business.

In the spring of 2003 we integrated our Confectionary plant in Brampton Ontario to our Mississauga facility to produce candy, chocolate covered nuts and baking chocolate.

To continue our strategy to build national presence, in 2004 Trophy purchased controlling interest in Aliments Lalumière Inc. in Longueuil, Quebec. Lalumière is a well known and trusted brand, with close to 100 years history in providing quality nuts in Quebec.

The key to Trophy’s accomplishments is our unwavering commitment to quality.  Both plants in Calgary and Mississauga are HACCP, Organic and Kosher certified.  These designations demonstrate to customers our commitment to food safety and product quality.

With strong leadership and a clear recognition of the value of committed employees, Trophy’s history of ethical business practices and effective planning explains the success we have had and forms a solid basis for future growth and prosperity.

Today Trophy Foods Inc. remains proudly Canadian with facilities strategically located in major markets across the country; in Mississauga, Ontario, to serve Eastern and Atlantic Canada; in Longueuil, Quebec to service Quebec; and in Calgary, Alberta, to service Western Canada.

After 40+ years of consistent growth, Trophy’s premium quality products, continuing product innovations, energetic employees, and uncompromising attitude towards quality control guarantees we will continue to thrive in this highly competitive marketplace.
